Proposed programme
Practical training for people who manage other people.
Designed with the commissioning organisation. Not a fixed public course, and not an accredited qualification.
The organisational problem
New and accidental managers are often given the job title without a usable way to hold a performance conversation, develop a member of staff, or be clear about what the team is responsible for.
Who it is for
Team leaders, first-line managers, and supervisors. Suitable for a cohort inside one organisation, including public-sector, charity and private teams.
What the programme can include
Included only where discovery shows they belong in this brief.
- Managing people from day to day
- Performance conversations
- Staff development
- Team responsibilities and follow-through
- Workplace communication that is specific rather than motivational
Possible delivery formats
- Workshops for a defined group of managers
- Short practice between sessions
- Online, in the workplace, or a mix agreed after discovery
Intended learning outcomes
These are the outcomes a programme can be designed towards. They are not guaranteed.
- Managers who can prepare and hold a straightforward performance conversation
- A shared language for responsibilities inside the team
- Actions the sponsor can see, agreed in advance
Proposed delivery approach
Sessions are built around situations from the organisation, within the bounds of what people can properly share. This is proposed as a tailored programme. It is not a fixed public timetable.
How outcomes can be evaluated
Feedback from participants, a short review with the commissioning manager, and the actions agreed at the start. UYP Academy does not claim that training alone changes organisational performance.
Questions
- How is this different from leadership development?
- Management training is the practical work of running a team: conversations, responsibilities and follow-through. Leadership development is for the wider decisions of emerging and established leaders. An organisation can commission one or both.
- Do you publish course dates?
- No. Dates, length and group size are agreed with the organisation commissioning the work.
